High Levels of Statin non‐acceptance shown to persists

Heart disease is the leading cause of death worldwide and statin therapy has consistently shown in multiple landmark studies to reduce cardiovascular events death. Despite strength evidence its benefits, clinicians face many patients who are reluctant start therapy. A new study published JAMA Network Open, by investigators from Brigham Women's Hospital conducted first population-based on patients’ non-acceptance recommendations. The focused high-risk either had coronary artery or vascular disease, diabetes, high cholesterol levels, previous history stroke. All these were recommended statins their physicians, virtue risk order heart attack stroke levels. retrospective included more than 24,000 seen at Mass General between Jan. 1, 2000, Dec. 31, 2018. found that developing 20 percent refused take medications. Interestingly, they observed women likely men refuse therapy, about 20%, 50 never accept recommendation. also showed all developed higher LDL Unfortunately, no data available yet whether nonacceptance wold adversely affect event rate such as attacks, strokes, highlight importance targeting decline providing further education, understanding reasons behind devise strategies risk.
